Opening a Bank Account & Getting a Card
Bank Account Opening Procedure
Opening a bank account (also called opening a bankbook account) can be completed by visiting a bank branch and following the instructions of the bank staff.

Get a Waiting Number
Take a queue ticket from the ticket machine and wait until your number appears on the display board.

Consult with a Bank Employee
Tell the bank staff that you would like to open a bank account. If you need internet banking or a debit card, apply for them together.

Fill Out the Application Form
Complete the application form, including information checked by the staff, such as your alien registration number, date of birth, address, contact information, and signature.

Set Your Password
Set a 4-digit password for your bank account and card.

Confirm Receipt
Make sure to keep your bankbook and debit card safely.

Preparing for Course Registration
Course Registration
- Refer to the course timetable and register for courses for the semester.
- Students must register for 10 to 18 credits per semester.
(Registration for fewer than 10 credits or more than 18 credits is not allowed.) - Students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher in the previous semester may register for up to 21 credits.
- Unused credits from the first semester may be carried over to the second semester.
(Based on an 18-credit limit, when 1–2 credits remain unused.) - Students who register for or complete fewer than 14 credits will not be eligible for university scholarships in the following semester.
Course Adjustment
- During the first 5 days after the semester begins, students may add or drop courses.
- Students may attend classes first and then decide whether to keep or cancel the course registration.
Course Withdrawal
- After attending classes for 3 weeks, students may withdraw from up to 6 credits.
- Courses that have been withdrawn cannot be reinstated under any circumstances.
- However, the following courses cannot be withdrawn:
If remaining credits fall below 12 major credits, 30 liberal arts credits, or 10 total registered credits
Korean language courses, social service courses, service-learning courses, required liberal arts courses, etc.
Checking Classroom Information
- Class room assignments are finalized before the semester begins.
- Students can check classroom assignments in the “Class Timetable Output” menu of the Integrated Information System.

Introduction to the International Residence Hall
The International Residence Hall provides basic housing and convenient living facilities for international students, helping them focus more on their studies. Since students from various countries live together in the residence hall, it offers opportunities to experience diverse cultures and learn how to respect and live harmoniously with others from different cultural backgrounds.
Female exchange students and international undergraduate students are eligible to live in the International Residence Hall. During vacation periods, students move to the Share House for accommodation.

Dormitory Regulations & Important Notes
- All students moving into the dormitory must submit the results of a chest X-ray examination taken within the past 3 months.
- Heating appliances (rice cookers, electric appliances, etc.) and open flames are strictly prohibited. (Violation may result in eviction.)
- Visitors who do not reside in the dormitory are strictly prohibited from entering. (Violation may result in eviction.)
- Drinking alcohol and smoking are prohibited. (Violation may result in eviction.)

Very small single rooms rented on a monthly basis. Monthly rent is approximately KRW 300,000–500,000, and a deposit of KRW 50,000–500,000 is required. - One-room (Studio)
Most units are equipped with basic appliances and furniture such as a refrigerator, washing machine, and kitchen facilities. Contracts are usually for at least 6 months. Monthly rent is approximately KRW 450,000–600,000, and the deposit ranges from KRW 650,000–5,000,000.
Mandatory Health Insurance Enrollment
All international students are required to enroll in health insurance for the entire duration of their stay in Korea. The following types of insurance are recognized by SWU:
- Overseas insurance plans that can be used in Korea (Private insurance covering medical expenses caused by accidents or illness)

International Student Group Insurance Information
Group insurance enrollment is conducted every March and September based on student demand.

- Specialized Medical Services: Internal medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, psychiatry, family medicine, etc. are available only during the semester. Detailed schedules are announced on the university website.
