Application of Student visa (D-2)
After receiving acceptance letter, those accepted to enroll in undergraduate or double degree, or exchange student in Seoul Women's University need to visit the nearest Korean embassy or consulate and get a student visa(D-2)
Visa Extension
Foreigner who wants to stay longer than allowed length of stay must apply for a visa extension. You may apply from 2 months before to the day of expiration date. You will pay penalty fee if you fail to apply within expiration period. (Immigration Control Law Article 25)
- Required documents: application form, alien registration card, confirmation of tuberculosis checkup(overseas student who enrolled before December, 2014) commission fee, proof of enrollment, transcript, proof of financial support(Those who take below 4 credits), proof of residence documents
Alteration of stay status (change from language training course visa D-4 to study abroad visa D2)
students who completed the course and enter doctor's degree must apply for alteration of stay status within preset period.
- Subject of applicant: language training course D-4 visa holder who plans to enter undergraduate course
- Alteration of application period: from end of language training course until beginning of new semester
- Required documents: application form, alien registration card, ID card, ID photo, confirmation of tuberculosis checkup(overseas student who enrolled before December, 2014), commission fee for status alteration, reissue fee, acceptance letter, document of academic proof(need to be officially accepted), document of financial proof (needs to pay $20,000 when transferred to D-2)

Foreigner Registration
Foreigners who stay in Korea for 90 days or more should apply for alien registration.
- Subjects of alien registration: Foreigner who plans to stay in korea for more than 90 days since entry to Korea.
- Foreign registration period: within 90days to entry
- Documents to submit: application form for alien registration, passport, 2 ID photos, certificate of enrollment, fee, etc.
Compulsory to notify of change of stay
When foreigner with alien registration changes place of residence, one needs to report leader of city, district or gu or jurisdiction of immigration office of new residence or chief of brach office within 14 days of move.
Note: In case when registered foreigner doesn't report change in place of residence within 14 days, one will be fined fee of less than 1,000,000 won as a violation of article 36 of Immigration Control Law
Duty to report change in foreign registration matter
When any of events described below happens to registered foreigner, one needs to report change in foreign registration matter to immigration office of jurisdiction within 14 days.
1. Name, sex, date of birth or nationality has been altered
2. passport number, issuing date or expiration date has been altered.
3. Culture art(D-1), study abroad(D-2), general training (D-4)institution or organization foreigner belonged to changes
note: In case when registered foreigner doesn't report change in foreign registration matter to immigration office under jurisdiction within 14 days, one will be fined fee as a violation of article 35 of Immigration Control Law
Activity other than qualified stay
Permit of part time job for oversea student(D-2) and language course student(D-4-1)
Those who wish to get a job during studying abroad, must receive permit for activity other than qualified stay from immigration office beforehand. One should visit office of international affairs and fill out application form and submit it at least 5 days before job starts. You may pay a penalty if you are caught working without permit.
In case when place of your part time job changes you should also report such change.
When oversea student permitted to work for a year, wishes to extend permit, you may be disapproved if your presumed not to be abe to combine work with study. (According to your recent record of complete semester, if you have below attendance of 70% or average credit less than C+, you may not get a permit extension)
Those who breach article 20, immigration control law by doing other activities without permit, may be sent to jail for maximum of three years or fined 20 million won according to article 94.
