Goals

1. To acquire theories and knowledge of chemistry [knowledge],

2. To build a well-rounded character as a chemistry expert [virtue],

3. To develop students into female scientists equipped with expertise in chemistry conducive to state-of-the-art science [expertise].

About the Major

The department of chemistry deals with basic theories and application involving the structures of substances, reactivity, and chemical properties to equip students with basic theoretical backgrounds and practical skills so that they can develop into researchers and experts contributing to development of new chemical technologies. Freshmen take General ChemistryⅠ and Ⅱ to learn general aspects of chemistry. Sophomores, juniors and seniors major in organic, inorganic, analytic and physical chemistry units to acquire knowledgeability as chemists. Theoretical units are balanced with practicums in each major, for which a range of cutting-edge equipment, e.g. FT-IR, GC-MS, LC-MS, GC, HPLC, IR, UV-vis spectrophotometer, ICP, AA spectrometer, fluorometer and SEM are offered to students. Career paths include private/public labs, public servants, state-of-the-art materials, BT, petrochemistry, precision chemical products, environment, dye, fertilizer, textile, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, foods, clinical testing rooms at general hospitals, researchers in diverse enterprises, master’s/ PhD students at graduate schools and patent agents.
